Krujë sits about 32 km north of Tirana and roughly 20 km from Tirana International Airport (Rinas). The airport is actually on the way to the capital, not a detour — which changes how you should think about transfers. This is the plain, no-sales-pitch version we give friends and guests arriving for the first time.
Below: how far everything really is, the three ways to make the trip, when to leave for a flight, and a few practical things that trip people up.
How far is Krujë from Tirana and the airport?
By road it's about 32 km from Krujë to central Tirana — usually 45 to 55 minutes depending on traffic through Fushë-Krujë and the city approach.
Tirana International Airport (Rinas/TIA) is closer: roughly 20 km and about 30 minutes, because it lies between Krujë and Tirana. Durrës and its port are about 30 km (35 to 40 minutes) to the southwest, which matters if you're arriving by cruise.
Taxi, furgon, or rental car?
A shared furgon (minibus) from Tirana's northern terminal (Terminali i Veriut) is the cheapest way in, but it runs on its own schedule, takes around an hour, drops you at the foot of the hill below the Old Bazaar, and does not serve the airport.
A rental car gives you freedom for the wider region, but you'll deal with Tirana traffic and then parking on Krujë's steep, narrow bazaar streets — manageable, but not relaxing after a long flight.
A private taxi is door-to-door, leaves when you want, costs a fixed price agreed in advance, and is the only option that works smoothly for early-morning or late-night flights.
Timing your airport transfer
For departures, leave Krujë about three hours before an international flight. The drive itself is short, but the road through Fushë-Krujë can clog during the morning rush, and you don't want that eating your buffer.
For arrivals, the airport's position between Krujë and Tirana means your transfer is quicker than a full run into the city. If you book ahead with your flight number, your driver can wait in the arrivals hall even if the flight is delayed.
A few practical things
Taxi prices are per car, not per person, so a couple or a family splits a single fare. Most cars take up to four passengers with luggage comfortably — flag larger groups or extra bags when you book.
You can pay in euros or lek, in cash, directly to the driver. Card payment isn't standard for local transfers, so carry some cash. Ask in advance if you need a child seat.

We run fixed-price private transfers from Krujë to Tirana, Rinas airport, Durrës, and across Albania. The full route list with prices is on our taxi page.
Common questions about getting between Krujë and Tirana
Is there a direct bus from Krujë to Tirana Airport?
No direct bus service connects Krujë to Tirana International Airport (Rinas). The public furgon from Tirana's northern terminal drops you in central Tirana, not at the airport — and it doesn't serve the airport route at all. For airport transfers, a private taxi is the only door-to-door option.
How early should I leave Krujë for an international flight?
Allow three hours before your flight's scheduled departure. The drive is only about 30 minutes under normal conditions, but the road through Fushë-Krujë can slow down during morning rush hour, and you don't want traffic eating your check-in buffer.
Is the taxi price per person or per car?
The price is per car, not per person. A couple or a family of four all pay the same flat fare. Standard vehicles comfortably take up to four passengers with luggage. If you're travelling with a larger group or have a lot of bags, mention it when you book and we'll arrange the right vehicle.
Can I pay the taxi driver in euros or do I need Albanian lek?
You can pay in either euros (EUR) or Albanian lek (ALL), in cash, directly to the driver. Card payments are not standard for local transfers, so carry some cash. The fare is agreed in advance so there are no surprises at the end of the journey.
